  • Ladbroke Heritage PICTURE A DAY IN MAY
  • May 1st ATTWOOD COTTAGE This building dates back to the 17th century and like several villages houses takes its name from former residents.
  • May 2nd LAMBS Wool was big buisness in the 17th and 18th centuries, helped by laws saying the dead must be buried in a pure English woollen shroud?
  • May 3rd BLUEBELL These appear in woodland from mid April. Ladbroke has both the dainty English Bluebell (pictured) and its competitive and more chunky Spanish cousin, plus hybrids of the two.
  • May 4th A FRIENDLY FACE Take a stroll through the village on a fine evening to admire the sights and smells of spring
  • May 5th A SIP OF NECTAR This peacock butterfly is sipping nectar from Hawthorn flowers. The tree is used for hedging and is sometimes called May after the month in which bears its dense creamy white blossom.
  • May 6th DOUBLE RAINBOW There's no pot of gold at Ladbroke Church but we thank everyone for their financial support of the recent repairs, including Lottery players via the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

  • May 8th SPARKLING LIGHT This is one of plain windows at All Saints Ladbroke church. All Saints is more well known for its stained glass dating from the 15th to early 19th centuries.

  • May 10th SIGNPOST The post says Jubilee Way 2002 - presumably a route named in honour of the Queen's 50th Jubilee.
  • May 11th WHO NEEDS CCTV? Real owls live in Ladbroke too...ooo!
  • May 12th LADBROKE HALL Developed in the 17th century and one of the Palmer-Morewood's family homes for nearly 300 years?
  • MAY 13th LADBROKE AT NIGHT Brown long eared bats were one of 4 species found during bat surveys at Church. The others were pipstrelle, soprano pipstrelle and noctule.
  • May 14th BLOOMING LOVELY Roses have been appreciated by people for thousands of years. Each colour is said to have a special meaning - pink ones express gentle emotions such as admiration, joy, gratitude and endless love.
  • May 15th SUNDIAL & CARVED HEAD The sundial on the church porch is dated 1616. Do you think the carving below is Charles I (1600-1649)?
  • May 16th THAT'S NOT LADBROKE! True, it's part of Kenilworth Castle. Sir Robert Dudley, who inherited the castle bought Ladbroke manor in 1596 and many other properties here soon after.
  • May 17th BEAKS TO FEED A blue tit busy with food for its young family.
  • May 18th RIDGE AND FURROW is still prominent in many of the fields around the village and it seems that buttercups prefer the drier ridges.
  • May 19th VILLAGE FARM White wisteria adorns this building on the main street through the village.
  • May 20th EMBROIDERED STOLE Special clothes for special occasions. This is part of the stole worn by the priest here at weddings, Christmas and Easter services.
  • May 21st THE WRONG CAMOUFLAGE Zoom to see how well this moth would have merged in with a twig or dead leaf, not so good on one of our notices though!
  • May 22nd CHURCH SPIRE Reaching 120' above ground level the our elegant spire can be seen for miles (even more so now that HS2 works have removed many hedges)
  • May 23rd FARM APPROACH The view down the drive of Ladbroke House.
  • May 24th BUTTERCUPS Wildflowers greet walkers through Farmyard Field at this time of year.
  • May 25th CARVED HEAD Many centuries ago the heads in Ladbroke church porch were corbels holding up roof rafters in the church at Radbourne.
  • May 26th HIGH HOUSE An 18th century farmhouse near the Millennium Green.
  • May 27th CROSS ON THE CHURCH ROOF This carved cross has resisted the weather well despite its exposed position on the end of the nave roof.
  • May 28th MACKLIN BRIDGE A different perspective on the bridge between the Millennium Green and Farmyard Field. The footpath here is part of the ancient route to Harbury.
  • May 29th VIEW FROM THE HILL A wonderful view rewards those who stroll up the footpath on Milking Hill.
  • May 30th CHURCH COTTAGE Sole survivor of many cottages along Church Road shown on the 1639 map of Ladbroke.
  • May 31st SUNSET A marvellous winter sky behind church.
